A Sunday morning going sightly out of my comfort zone…

I just recently found that group, Foto y Vino, or better, the group found me via the Leica Store Eventbrite notifications. Foto y Vino does multiple things, one of which is hosting group foto critiques at the Leica Store in Boston every 2 months or so. I went to one, just to get the feel, and see how it is. For the following one I signed up as presenter.

The question was: what photos do I show there?

I wanted to select 9 photos out of my “body of work” and arrange them for viewers to easily flow through them. Something I want to get better at, discovering narratives or even simple elements to form connections between pictures. That was also the topic I was mostly asking feedback for, and received some good pointers. Thanks Foto y Vino audience!

This was my selection, in that order:

Card dealing hand

Book selecting hand

Book selecting hand was an audience favorite. A little to my surprise, but tastes are different.

Nervous hand

Love the little mystery in here, the nervous fingers, the blacked out face.

Hot dog hand

I would love to have something filling that empty space. Maybe AI can help?

Gun hand

The 2 boys and toy gun is one of my favorites in my whole photo catalog. But it tripped people up in this arrangement, it doesn’t work and is a different style. Showed me my own bias, I can see it now.

Couple hand

Walking hand

Also a crowd pleaser. I have a hate/love relation ship with this one. Love the light and graphic language, but hate that there’s really not much going on. Maybe that’s its strength though.

Pikachu hand

Nothing at first, until you discover Pikachu is giggled because he’s tickled under his eye.

Yellow hand

Next time I would re-arrange more intentional by symmetries, lines and colors. Skip the boys and find another strong light + color one.
